let’s shake things up
We’ve rounded up five cocktails (OK… five of our personal favourites) that are as easy to make as they are impressive. From a modern French Martini to a humble Margarita with a healthy-ish twist, these recipes bring maximum flavour with minimum fuss.
Passionfruit Margarita (Our Healthy-ish Version)
Fact: Margaritas make everyone happier*
*Experience-based, not evidence-based
Ingredients:
- 60ml Tequila (we recommend Espolon Tequila Blanco for something that tastes great and is reasonably priced)
- 30ml fresh lime juice
- 15ml passionfruit pulp (fresh or canned)
- 10ml agave syrup (adjust for sweetness)
- Ice
- Lime wedge and salt (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Rim your glass with lime and salt.
- Add tequila, lime juice, passionfruit pulp, and agave syrup to a shaker with ice.
- Shake it (like a Polaroid picture) then strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
- Garnish with a lime wedge
French Martini
Laura’s FAVOURITE! We can’t believe this wasn’t invented until the 1980s. At least she's never had to live in a world without them.
Ingredients:
- 45ml Vodka (we recommend Absolut Vodka – it’s always a safe bet)
- 15ml Chambord (Black Raspberry Liqueur)
- 60ml pineapple juice
- Ice
- Fresh raspberry or pineapple slice (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Pour the vodka, Chambord, and pineapple juice into a shaker filled with ice
- Shake until it’s nice and cold, then strain into a chilled martini glass
- Garnish with a fresh raspberry or a slice of pineapple (don’t worry if you can’t be bothered, it looks just as chic on its own)
Elderflower Gin Fizz
If summer-chic was a cocktail it would be this. Delicate, floral, and refreshing.
Ingredients:
- 40ml Gin (we love Hendrick’s or Roku for something more budget friendly)
- 20ml St-Germain Elderflower Liqueur
- 20ml fresh lemon juice
- Splash of soda water
- Lemon twist or edible flower (for garnish)
- Ice
Instructions:
- In a shaker, combine gin, St-Germain, lemon juice, and ice.
- Shake well until chilled, then strain into an ice-filled glass.
- Top with a splash of soda water and garnish with a lemon twist or an edible flower for an elegant touch
Classic Moscow Mule
Fresh, zesty, and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients:
- 60ml Vodka (again, we think you should go for Absolut Vodka or Grey Goose if you’re feeling fancy)
- 15ml fresh lime juice
- Ginger beer (to finish)
- Ice
- Lime wedge (for garnish)
Instructions:
- In a copper mug (let’s be real, you can just use any glass), add your ice, vodka, and lime juice.
- Top with ginger beer, giving it a quick stir.
- Garnish with lime wedge (be sure to squeeze it in) for a refreshing kick.
Strawberry Basil Smash
Fruity, fragrant, healthy* (hello, fresh fruit!) and fabulously simple.
*’Healthy’ has many different definitions in our book.
Ingredients:
- 50ml Gin (go for Hendrick’s or Roku)
- 4 fresh strawberries
- 2-3 fresh basil leaves
- 15ml fresh lemon juice
- 15ml simple syrup
- Ice
Instructions:
- Muddle the strawberries and basil in the bottom of a shaker.
- Add the gin, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice.
- Shake well, then strain into an ice-filled glass.
- Garnish with a basil leaf and a strawberry slice.
There you have it. These five cocktails are your secret weapon that will impress anyone. Whether you’re hosting or just want a treat for yourself, these recipes have you covered.
Cheers,
Harry & Laura
